Messinia is one of the most beautiful prefectures in Greece. Its landscape consists of an endless coast line and high mountains, and there are certainly many surprises for the visitor who takes the time to explore it,whatever the time of year may be.
The Taygetos mountain, the wetland of Gialova, the forest of evergreen trees with arbutus trees on the island of Sapouniza (a natural monument), Polilimnio (a succession of lakes), the mythical river Nedas and its gorge, the gorges of Viros and Rintomos and the island complex of Messinian Oinousses very close to the coastline, a refuge for wild birds and animals.
To walk in Messinia is to walk through history. This can be experienced when visiting Ancient Messini, the temple of Apollo Epikourios, Nestor's Palace, the castles of Koroni, Methoni and Pylos and the numerous museums.
