With the mountains Vorra, Paiko and Vermio, the plains of Edessa, Aridea and Giannitsa, the lakes Vegoritida and Agra, the rivers Voda, Aliakmonas and Loudia and the unique Edessa waterfalls, Pella concentrates a diversity of ecosystems most of which have been declared Natura areas and areas of special protection.
The large archaeological site of ancient Pella, capital of ancient Macedonia, is also in the area. During the winter don't forget to visit Kaimaktsalan ski centre and the beautiful traditional settlement of Agios Athanasios.

The area is known for its fruit, especially Vodena cherries, Panagitsa apples, peaches, tsouskes (chili peppers), homemade pasta, tsipouro (drink made from distilled grape marc), marmelades and spoon sweets.
Try local specialities: the nourishing tsobleki (meat cooked with various vegetables), delicious pies, etli manti (local pasta with minced meat) and flogeres (sweet with cream wrapped in pastry).
